The Spiritual and Vocational Guidance Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) seminar, themed "Empowered Beginnings: Self-Discovery, Career Choices, and Labor Rights," successfully provided graduating students with spiritual reflection, career guidance, and essential knowledge about labor rights and regulations. The event's comprehensive program, featuring insightful talks and the distribution of the GCSO Career Toolkit booklet, empowered the students to embark on their career journeys with confidence and preparedness.
Morning Session: Recollection. The day commenced with a Recollection aimed to provide graduating students with spiritual guidance and self-reflection as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. The Catholic Recollection, held at the Aklan Training Center (ATC), was led by Ms. Sharmaine May I. Inosanto. Simultaneously, the Non-Catholic Recollection took place at the ASU Kalibo Audio Visual Room (AVR), facilitated by Fil Richard G. Yasay II.
Afternoon Session: Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) Seminar. The Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) seminar commenced at 1:00 PM at the Aklan Training Center (ATC). The program aimed to equip graduating students with essential knowledge and resources for their career journey and understanding of labor rights. Mr. Kim G. Yabut, Guidance Services Coordinator, delivered the opening remarks and provided an overview of the activity's objectives and expectations.
Ms. Joni Rose M. Tubao, Guidance CounseloEditCaptionr III, introduced the GCSO Career Toolkit booklet, a comprehensive resource developed by the GCSO Kalibo to aid graduating students in their job search and interview preparation. The booklet includes information on the First Time Jobseekers Act and other essential resources. Ms. Tubao also highlighted the partnership between ASU and KadaKareer, a platform offering career support services and workshops to students.
Mr. Marsh Bernabe, Provincial PESO Manager, and Ms. Sharon Mae Julian, Provincial PESO Manager Alternate, delivered a talk on PESO Services and Career Coaching, providing valuable insights into the job market and career development strategies.
The final resource speaker, Mr. Richie G. Buyco, OIC-Head of DOLE Aklan Field Office, discussed DOLE Services and Foreign and Local Deployment Procedures and Guidelines, equipping the students with knowledge about labor rights and regulations.
The program was hosted by Jhone Jay Fernando and Razer Mercado, graduating students from the BS Civil Engineering program.

On May 31, 2024, Aklan State University (ASU) successfully hosted a job fair at the Kalibo Campus Function Hall to connect ASU graduates and graduating students with potential employers. The job fair attracted 217 participants from ASU's campuses. Of these, 185 actively engaged in interviews, with 13 receiving on-the-spot job offers and 94 qualifying for further interviews.
The job fair was a collaborative effort, hosted by ASU Kalibo and facilitated by the Guidance and Counseling Services Office (GCSO), in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Office of the Provincial Public Employment Service Manager (OPPESM). A dedicated team of guidance counselors played a crucial role in organizing and facilitating the event: Ms. Mary Loannie Tenazas (GCSO Banga), Mr. Kim Yabut, Ms. Joni Rose Tubao, Ms. Gerlie Jago (GCSO Kalibo), Ms. Rafel Regidor, Ms. Psyche Conanan, Dr. Anne Cicely Samar, and Ms. Regie Danay.
The job fair program commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Amzi Martirez, ASU Kalibo's Chair for Administrative and Support Services. The official opening ceremony was then led by Senior Labor and Employment Officer Mr. Amador Tajanlangit, representing the DOLE Aklan Field Office. Ms. Sigrid Kate Javier and Ms. Angela Cawaling, representatives from OPPESM, graced the occasion with their presence, along with Ms. Rosyl May Tiaña, ASU Kalibo's Chair of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS).
The job fair featured a diverse group of 13 employers, including: Ace Hardware Phils., Inc., Bread and Butter, Eperformax Contact Centers and BPO, F&C Jewelry, Inc., Filbake Food Corporation, Gaisano Capital Kalibo, Navarra Meatshop and Food Products, Primepower Manpower Services, Army Recruitment Office-Visayas (Philippine Army), Toyota Aklan, Inc., Transcom Worldwide Phils., Inc., Romac Visayas Services, Inc., and Royal Group of Companies. Government agencies, such as the Social Security System (SSS), PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), were also present to assist participants with pre-employment requirements.
To enhance the participant experience, the ASU Kalibo Audio Visual Room (AVR) served as a waiting area where applicants could review job vacancies and access resources on interview preparation. The Library's computer laboratory was made available for online pre-employment assessments.
The ASU Job Fair 2024 provided a valuable platform for students and graduates to connect with potential employers. The strong collaboration between ASU, DOLE, OPPESM, and the dedicated GCSO team ensured a productive experience for all participants.

The workshop "Pre-Job Interview Crash Course Workshop for ASU-CIT Graduates and Graduating Students" was skillfully conducted by the GCSO. It was split into two distinct sessions, one in the morning for graduating students and another in the afternoon for graduates and alumni. The morning session accommodated BSHM and BSA graduating students, ensuring they received tailored guidance. Later in the afternoon, the focus shifted to the specific needs of BTVTED graduates, addressing their unique career paths and challenges. This thoughtful organization allowed for a more personalized approach, equipping attendees from both groups with essential tools and advice for their upcoming job interviews and future professional pursuits.
