The GCSO THRIVE program assisted first year students in their transition to college. Each session began with opening remarks delivered by either Dr. Angeline G. Regalado (Campus Director), Dr. Leunamatileme G. Tosoc (Chair, Academic Affairs), or Ms. Rosyl May J. Tiaña (Chair, Office of the Student Affairs and Services), setting the tone for the day and highlighting the importance of the transition to college and the program's role in supporting students. Following the opening remarks, a Guidance Needs Assessment was conducted to better understand the specific needs of the incoming students.

GCSO THRIVE

The following sessions were facilitated by Ms. Joni Rose M. Tubao (Guidance Counselor III) and Mr. Kim G. Yabut (Guidance Services Coordinator):

Each session was designed to be interactive, encouraging student participation and engagement. Selected officers of the academic organizations (UAPSA, ACES, PSITS, PIONEERS, AHMS, and YES) and the University Student Council (USC) were also present, assisting GCSO in facilitating the activities. Sir Kim, who also serves as the Chair for Gender and Development Services, briefly discussed the important topics of bullying and gender-based harassment, providing guidance on what students should do if they encounter such situations. Additionally, the "GCSO THRIVE: Freshies Guide to University Life" flyer, containing comprehensive information about GCSO and its services, was distributed to all participants. At the conclusion of the program, students completed an evaluation to provide feedback on their experience. Closing remarks by Mr. Kim G. Yabut reiterated the program's key messages and encouraged students to utilize the resources available through GCSO. A group photo session marked the successful conclusion of the program.

2023 WOMEN'S MONTH CELEBRATION, CLIENT-FOCUSED CELEBRATION

Mr. Paul Adrian M. Pelayo, Population Program Officer I from Aklan Provincial Population and Gender Office, provided valuable insights on adolescent health and development, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive sexuality/reproductive education, including their rights, responsibilities, and access to resources related to their sexual and reproductive health.

Following the talk, an open forum was conducted where participants actively engaged in discussions, asking questions, and sharing their views on the topics discussed. The forum provided a safe space for students to express their concerns and seek clarification on various aspects of adolescent health and development.

The event successfully achieved its objectives. Participants demonstrated a deeper understanding of adolescent health and development, gained knowledge on comprehensive sexuality/reproductive education, and

showed a willingness to challenge discriminatory norms and practices. The open forum fostered a sense of empowerment among students, encouraging them to take charge of their health and well-being.

The collaboration between the Guidance and Counseling Services Office and the GAD Office created a platform for meaningful dialogue and learning. The event not only contributed to the participants' personal growth but also reinforced the university's commitment to gender equality and inclusivity.

BEYOND KILIG: UNDERSTANDING YOURSELF AND YOUR RELATIONSHIPS
On February 14, 2024, the Guidance and Counseling Services Office (GCSO) of ASU-Kalibo Campus, in collaboration with the Gender and Development Office, conducted the "Beyond Kilig: Understanding Yourself and Your Relationships" activity. This initiative aimed to foster self-awareness and enhance understanding of relationship dynamics within the university community.

The activity featured the utilization of several validated psychological tests: the Love Attitudes Scale (short form), the Relationship Assessment Scale, and The Five Love Languages Test. Participants' scores were interpreted and discussed by Ms. Joni Rose Tubao, Guidance Counselor, providing valuable insights into personal values, needs, expectations, and communication styles in relationships. Participants who expressed relationship concerns or problems were encouraged to schedule individual counseling sessions with the GCSO for further support.

Participation was voluntary and open to all ASU-CIT students, faculty, and staff, promoting inclusivity and accessibility. To encourage participation, participants received freebies including pens, candies, and stickers.

The event served as a platform for raising awareness about the GCSO as a valuable resource for relationship-related concerns, while simultaneously contributing to positive gender development by fostering healthy and respectful relationships within the ASU-CIT community.

The Gender and Development Services has partnered with the Guidance and Counseling Services Office for the Client-Focused celebration of the 2023 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women. Ms. Joni Rose M. Tubao, Guidance Counselor III, was honored to be invited as a distinguished resource speaker. Her presentation, titled "Champions of Mental Health: Empowering Student Leaders to Create A Supportive and Thriving School Environment," showcased her expertise in fostering a supportive atmosphere within the educational setting. The comprehensive discourse covered crucial topics such as suicide prevention and the significance of self-care strategies. To assess measure the participants' subjective well-being, a short test, the WHO-5 Well-being Index, was administered. Ma'am Tubao eloquently addressed the audience, emphasizing the pivotal role of student leaders in championing mental health awareness and cultivating an environment that fosters well-being and support for all individuals within the school community. Her insightful session aimed to equip attendees with valuable insights and practical tools to tackle mental health challenges and promote a culture of empathy and care within educational institutions.

The workshop "Pre-Job Interview Crash Course Workshop for ASU-CIT Graduates and Graduating Students" was skillfully conducted by the GCSO. It commenced with a pre-test to assess the participants' baseline knowledge and understanding of job interview skills. The workshop was then split into two distinct sessions, one in the morning for graduating students and another in the afternoon for graduates and alumni. The morning session accommodated BSHM and BSA graduating students, commencing with a comprehensive crash course on crafting impactful resumes and cover letters, followed by a workshop dedicated to mastering the art of answering common interview questions. Later in the afternoon, the focus shifted to the specific needs of BTVTED graduates, addressing their unique career paths and challenges, employing a similar structure of a crash course and workshop. After each session, a post-test was administered to gauge the effectiveness of the workshop in enhancing participants' knowledge and skills. The event concluded with a plenary sharing/open forum, allowing participants to exchange insights and experiences, followed by the awarding of certificates to acknowledge their participation and commitment to professional development. This thoughtful organization allowed for a more personalized approach, equipping attendees from both groups with essential tools and advice for their upcoming job interviews and future professional pursuits.

ASU-CIT extended a warm invitation to its esteemed students, faculty, and staff members for an imperative mental health initiative titled "Mental Wellness Check-In: Take Charge of Your Well-Being." This pivotal event, organized by the Guidance and Counseling Services Office Kalibo, aims to offer a comprehensive mental health assessment coupled with a concise psychoeducation activity. A series of validated tests were administered: Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) to evaluate stress levels, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) for anxiety assessment, Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) to assess depression symptoms, and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire to measure psychological well-being. The initiative endeavors to provide invaluable tools and insights necessary for fostering mental well-being and empowering individuals to proactively manage their overall health.
